Gaye Su Akyol, who delivered a fantastic show at Salam Music last year at Flex, is now bringing a dazzling, glamorous piece to Vienna— a music theater rebellion about resentment and respect, oppression and freedom. Consistent Fantasy is Reality is the first music theater production by the Turkish singer and activist. True to Gaye Su Akyol’s signature style, post-punk, grunge, and psychedelic surf rock merge with Turkish classical and Anatolian folk music. For the world premiere of Consistent Fantasy is Reality she expands her sonic landscape by collaborating with classically trained orchestral musicians.
About this play:
After a glamorous concert night, Gaye Su Akyol returns to her daily routine. Driving her minibüs through İstanbul, she picks up passengers: a conservative man, a teacher who is involved in socio-political issues, a young queer person on their way to a date. The conflict seems pre-programmed, but the danger comes from another direction: the minibus is abducted into space! The grey planet on which they crash-land is threatened by a sinister secret organization that is fighting against the power of individuality and is also targeting Earth. Will Gaye Su Akyol and her crew manage to overcome their differences and save two planets at once?
