Born from two worlds – Syria and Germany – SHKOON weave their different perspectives into something deeply personal: an album titled Traces. Their story began in 2015 when Ameen from Syria and Thorben from Germany met in Hamburg. What started as a spontaneous musical exchange soon grew into one of the most distinctive voices in Arab electronica. Blending Arabic folklore, traditional melodies and original lyrics with electronic beats, SHKOON have created a sound entirely their own.
With their debut album Rima (2019), SHKOON captivated audiences across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Despite the challenges of Ameen’s refugee journey, their artistic vision continued to grow — their music becoming a bridge connecting hearts, stories and cultures.
Their new project Traces is an invitation to walk through the imprints each of us — and all of us together — have left behind. In a world that so often divides, the German-Syrian duo creates a space to come together. Because every trace carries a story, and when we follow them, we never walk alone. Traces is not an elegy. It is a quiet uprising — a deeply emotional reflection on what remains when everything else fades: the footsteps of those before us, the stillness after the storm, the echoes of transformation.
