She is considered one of the most sensual yet uncompromising voices of Arab indie pop: Lebanese singer and songwriter Yasmine Hamdan returns with a new album. She first gained recognition as part of the duo Soapkills, one of the pioneering indie formations to emerge from the Arab world in the late 1990s. As a solo artist, she fuses electronic music, traditional Arabic sounds, chanson elements, and experimental pop in her unmistakable way. Her albums Ya Nass (2013) and Al Jamilat (2017), as well as her appearance in Jim Jarmusch’s cult film Only Lovers Left Alive, brought her international acclaim.
After eight years of silence, she now returns with her new work I Remember I Forget – an album that can also be read as both a personal and political statement. Created during a time of profound upheaval and social crisis, Yasmine Hamdan reflects in her songs on personal and collective experiences – introspective, stripped-down, with subtle guitars and fragile vocals, full of emotional depth. Music that carries both intimacy and strength.
