The children's music theatre "In Search of Simurgh" brings the timeless wisdom of Fariduddin Attar's "Conference of the Birds" (died around 1221) to a young audience. The "Conference of the Birds" is among the most famous texts of Sufism and narrates the human quest for spiritual experience.

The wise hoopoe gathers all the birds around him to persuade them to embark on a journey to their mysterious king, Simurgh, at the end of the world. He himself had failed before, but together, they could succeed, he declares. The birds are initially enthusiastic because the longing to meet the legendary Simurgh is great. However, as the hoopoe tells more about the dangers and challenges of the journey, more and more birds lose their courage; many withdraw under various pretexts. Nevertheless, enough birds remain to undertake the great journey.

Renata S. Diem and Marwan Abado bring the fable of the ancient Persian poet to the stage in a child-friendly and modern context, taking the children on an adventurous journey with lightness. With an original set and educating plot, they create an imaginative and sonorous piece that enchants not only children but also invites adults to be inspired by the beauty and depth of ancient Persian literature.

Renata Sarasvati Diem is a trained opera singer (Vienna Conservatory). Living between two to three cultures and moving between three to four art forms, she combines her experiences and practice in various music and theatre projects.
